Mar 22, 2014 at 21:15 comment added HeavyAl Which is why I voted up your answer. Stats and shared fiction in this case are mutually exclusive.
Mar 21, 2014 at 5:21 comment added BESW @HeavyAl They share common elements, but use them differently. Read the first line of the answer again: "The emphasis on the shared fiction of play." The primary argument isn't that fantasy sports use stats, it's that they generally lack the "shared experience" of the fiction which --in RPGs-- stats exist to support.

Mar 19, 2014 at 16:44 comment added HeavyAl I'm up-voting your response but I'm not sure your line of "Fantasy sports is a game of statistics and strategy" is a logical reason for not including them as that is exactly what table top RPG's are about. Grab any character sheet near at hand and you've got dozens of stats that are required to make that character work. I have no real knowledge of Fantasy sports games, but if the primary argument is that they use 'stats' then unfortunately that puts us squarely in the same ballpark (yes, you can laugh now).
